Eckhart Tolle wasn’t kidding when he said the only thing we truly have is the present moment.

Recently, I had a moment of self-realization while reading The Power of Now. It was one of those “aha!” moments, but instead of a lightbulb flicking on, it felt more like a wake-up alarm I’d snoozed a dozen times.

In both business and life, we’re often stuck in a “what’s next?” mindset: the next performance review, the next promotion, the next big milestone. But here’s the plot twist: success—whether in business or life—doesn’t live in your five-year plan. It’s built right now, in every decision, every conversation, and every moment of focus.

And it’s not just about the extra effort you put in at work. This mindset extends to personal life, too. So many of my friends tell me they’re unhappy with where their life is headed. While I’m always there to listen, part of me wants to ask, “What are you doing now to change it?”

I’m no saint, either. For the longest time, I dreamt of a life filled with love, happiness, and hard work—of pouring love into the people I cherish most, spreading joy, and giving my best. But, if I’m being real, what was I actually doing right now to make that happen?

We tend to wait for “someday” to start living fully or doing the things we’ve always wanted—like horseback riding or skydiving (yep, both on my list). But isn’t “someday” just another form of procrastination? Why not make today the day we fully show up?

Let’s stop overthinking the future (guilty as charged!) and start mastering the present. Because when you dominate the now, you’re already winning the game.

But here’s the kicker: winning the “rat race” isn’t the purpose of life either. Right now, my “why” is to spread joy and love to those I care about, while working to become the best version of myself.

What’s your “why”? What are you doing today to live it?
